Meet Jens "Little Evil" Pulver

Jens "Little Evil" Pulver is an American mixed-martial-arts pioneer and the inaugural UFC Lightweight Champion. Known for his southpaw boxing and defensive wrestling, he became one of the key figures of the UFC's early Zuffa era and later served as a head coach on The Ultimate Fighter 5. In 2023, Pulver was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame (Pioneer Wing) in recognition of his impact on the sport.

Profile & Career

Born in Sunnyside, Washington, Jens Pulver rose from a decorated wrestling background to make his UFC debut in 1999. In February 2001, he defeated Caol Uno at UFC 30 to become the first UFC Lightweight Champion, and he recorded two successful title defenses -- against Dennis Hallman and B.J. Penn -- before leaving the promotion due to a contract dispute. Pulver later competed in PRIDE, returned to the UFC, and fought in WEC and ONE, before officially retiring from competition in 2014.

Hall of Fame

The UFC announced Jens Pulver for the Hall of Fame, Pioneer Wing in 2023, highlighting his status as the UFC's first lightweight titleholder and a foundational figure at 155 lbs. His induction was celebrated during UFC International Fight Week that summer.
